Boeing-EmbraerEarnings for 2Q: Embraer on Friday (13 August) reported second-quarter net income of $87.9 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier. The Sao Paulo-based company said it had net income of 48 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 24 cents per share. The plane and jet manufacturer posted revenue of $1.13 billion in the period. Embraer delivered 14 commercial jets and 20 executive jets (12 light / 8 large) in 2Q21, bringing the year-to-date deliveries to 23 commercial jets and 33 executive jets (22 light /11 large). Following solid sales activity in the period across businesses, total company firm order backlog at the end of 2Q21 was US$15.9 billion. Adjusted net income (excluding special items and deferred income tax and social contribution) in 2Q21 was US$43.6 million, with adjusted earnings per ADS of US$0.24. Embraer has issued financial and deliveries guidance for 2021. The company expects commercial jet deliveries of 45-50 aircraft, executive jet deliveries of 90-95 units, consolidated revenues in a range of $4.0 billion to $4.5 billion, adjusted EBIT margin of 3 percent to 4 percent, adjusted EBITDA margin of 8.5 percent to 9.5 percent, and free cash flow to be within a range of a usage of $150 million to breakeven for the year. aviation-news-in-brief-13-nov-2019Embraer commits to carbon neutral operations by 2040: Embraer, as part of its commitment to building a sustainable future, announced new ESG targets, including a commitment to carbon neutral operations by 2040. The company developed social responsibilities and environmental goals, which include offering an inclusive workplace for all employees and launching a zero-emission vehicle, all of which are integrated into the company’s corporate sustainability plan. The ESG goals are focused on helping to move both the company and the aviation industry forward. “At Embraer, we recognize the urgency of the climate crisis, and we are fully committed to a more sustainable future. We are stepping up our efforts to minimise our carbon footprint by remaining dedicated to innovating solutions that have a broader impact for our customers, our local communities, and our aircraft,” says Francisco Gomes Neto, president and CEO of Embraer. “ESG is at the heart of Embraer’s purpose and that´s why we´ve included ESG as one of the pillars in our strategic plan ‘Fit for Growth’, aligning business strategy with social responsibility and environmental practices.” To achieve the aviation industry´s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, Embraer will develop a range of products, services, and disruptive sustainable technologies, such as electrification, hybrid, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and other innovative energy alternatives. The company will also be offsetting any residual emissions that cannot be reduced through efficiency projects, available alternative energy or advancing technology.
Beacon announces agreement with Inflite The Jet Centre: Beacon, the maintenance coordination platform from EmbraerX, announced that it has signed an agreement with Inflite The Jet Centre, one of the largest privately-owned European MRO component support providers. The agreement is focused on supporting Inflite’s teams in gaining efficiencies to accelerate aircraft return-to-service. Inflite The Jet Centre answers over 800 AOG and Line cases per year thanks to its experienced and dedicated team of aircraft engineers on Embraer and other aircraft manufacturer’s products. Beacon is an innovative platform designed to connect and synchronize industry resources, the aftermarket supply chain, and aviation services professionals in a more agile and efficient manner ensuring the rapid return of aircraft to service. Benefitting from a startup mindset and backed by Embraer’s more than 50-year history of aerospace expertise, Beacon is poised to become the leading platform for aviation maintenance collaboration, creating a new digital era in aviation maintenance services, being capable of serving any manufacturer, anytime, anyplace. By signing this agreement, Beacon expands its European efforts and continues to pave a position in the digital aviation services industry. Recently Beacon has signed agreements with ABS Jets and the Mobile Repair Team. Last June, Beacon concluded over 35,000 unscheduled maintenance cases by more than a thousand users. These numbers are expected to grow as the aviation industry recovers from the COVID-19 crisis.
The Euramec Skylegs Online Flight Operations PlatformEmbraer launches Social Tech programme: Innovation and technology are directly associated with Embraer’s success story and now they will also play an important role in increasing the company’s positive social impact on society. Through the Social Tech programme, which brings together immersive distance training platforms, Embraer will promote professional training in technology for 1,500 people from minority groups by 2025. The new program is part of a set of environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments announced by the company. The first Embraer Social Tech will be implemented in partnership with the Brazilian Institute of Management and Information Technology (IGTI in Portuguese), to promote, exclusively at this time, professional training for People with Disabilities in the area of Data Analysis. The methodology adopted will be a bootcamp, an immersive training to develop skills and competencies in the sector. The program will select 300 applicants from all over Brazil who do not necessarily need to have previous experience in technology. Enrolments take place on the IGTI portal, starting on 16 August until 10 September of 2021. The attendees will have the opportunity of employment in one of the various business areas at Embraer, with an expectation to fill a minimum of 50 vacancies. With a three-month duration, the activities will start in October.
Embraer’s electric demonstrator aircraft begins flight test campaign: On the journey to a net zero-carbon emissions future, another initiative of Embraer has reached a new stage with the beginning of the flight test campaign of the electric demonstrator aircraft. Developed to evaluate new technologies and solutions that enable 100 percent electric and more sustainable aeronautical propulsion, the demonstrator conducts tests at Embraer’s facility in Gavião Peixoto, in São Paulo, Brazil. This is another promising step in the successful scientific and technological cooperation that has brought together Embraer and two renowned providers of electric mobility solutions, WEG and EDP. The open innovation strategy has accelerated the development of the needed technologies to increase the future aircraft´s energy efficiency through the use and integration of electrical devices into an innovative propulsion system. Power, performance, control, thermal management, and operation safety were the primary features evaluated in these manned first flights. The goal is to demonstrate real flight conditions through results obtained from computational simulations, lab tests and ground integration of technology, which have taken place since the second half of 2019. This technological cooperation project used an electric powertrain system from WEG and a set of batteries funded by EDP that were integrated into an EMB-203 Ipanema, an aircraft that is part of Embraer’s history. In 2004, it became the world´s first aircraft certified and produced in series to fly on fuel from a renewable source (ethanol).
Embraer, AvFuel collaborate on SAF: Embraer and Avfuel Corporation have announced a recent collaboration to bring Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to Melbourne Orlando International Airport. The agreement comes as Embraer announces its commitment on climate action, such as achieving carbon neutral operations by 2040 and supporting the aviation industry’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, both of which include integrating the use of SAF into its sustainability initiatives. As part of the collaboration, Avfuel supplied Embraer with Neste MY SAF at its Melbourne, Florida, facility by delivering the fuel to Sheltair (KMLB) for storage and handling. Embraer aims to use the SAF in ongoing operations at its executive jet’s headquarters in Melbourne. Avfuel provided its first delivery of the fuel to Embraer at Sheltair Melbourne on 14 July. Each truckload (approximately 8,000 gallons) of the fuel from Neste’s Houston location provides a 19.1 metric ton reduction in carbon emissions over its lifecycle—equivalent to the amount of carbon sequestered by 23.4 acres of U.S. forests per year. SAF is the most effective way to reduce a flight’s carbon footprint; and, in the future, SAF could deliver up to 80 percent less greenhouse gas emissions versus traditional jet fuel in its neat form.
