Lightspeed Aviation, which manufactures headsets for pilots, has released its newest eBook, “CO and Aviation: A Deadly Mix.”
The free book explains the causes and effects of CO poisoning, the steps you can take to prevent it, and what to do if you suspect it. The 14-page eBook also includes stories from pilots who’ve experienced CO poisoning, to show the different ways it can appear.
“Pilots know that carbon monoxide can be dangerous — it’s a constant and common risk in aviation,” Lightspeed officials say. “And a pilot cannot simply pull over and get out of the aircraft when CO is present during flight. In aviation, CO poisoning kills.”
It’s easy to download a free copy of the eBook. Go to LightspeedAviation.com, fill out the form and you’ll receive it in your email box in seconds.

My best friend at the time, who also was my first flight instructor, crashed and burned in 1967 in a Piper Aztec while piloting for a small U.S. Airmail contractor.
The investigation found cracks in the exhaust which allowed fumes to pass into the heating ducts causing unconsciousness. This is the common method for heat in most small aircraft.
This is a serious matter requiring vigilance in every flight and preflight. Invest in a cockpit CO detector.
