KINSTON & DURHAM – There’s about to be yet another technology hub based in Durham: flyExclusive today announced it would expand its leadership team and open a new office in Durham that will serve as a technology hub for employees to develop applications for the company and its clients.
The company, based in Kinston, provides private jet charter experiences, and has tapped Tommy Sowers as its new president of charter operation.  David Ivy has joined the company as the vice president of engineering and will lead the engineering team out of a new Durham office.

“flyExclusive has become one of the fastest-growing companies in North Carolina, with an incredible team of industry veterans using their combined expertise to build an elite brand in private jet travel,” said Sowers in a statement.
According to the statement, Sowers will execute the company’s strategic growth plan.  Sowers most recently served as the Southeast region lead for innovation for the U.S. Department of Defense and taught innovation and entrepreneurship at Duke University.
The company employs more than 500 people, and is currently seeking at least four engineering roles and eleven other roles, according to the company’s recruiting website.  The company shared in a statement that it generates nearly $250 million in annual recurring revenue.
“We are doubling down on our strategic investment in North Carolina and creating advancements that will power innovative private jet travel offerings as we look toward the next phase of our explosive growth,” said Sowers in a statement.
The company was noted in a list of best startups, published by Forbes in 2020, ranking 405th of 500 U.S.-based companies.
